From The Historical Bob Archives!!!
Here we are in the Needles area of Canyonlands National
Park. Day 5 or so of 9 days. With me are a couple of my climbing and hiking buddies: Ed Jacobsen on the left and Paul Berryhill on the right. This is before there were
tourist maps and guidebooks to the area, and the nearest ranger was 70 miles away in Moab. Our only ideas of where to go came from what was
on the topographic map.
By The Way: for those of you with 'THE WANDERLUST', that is the best way to explore any area. Look for the most topographically screwed up area
on the map and head straight for it.
Don't read to many guidebooks and descriptions. If you have too many preconceived notions about what you will find, you will find only that.
Note the kitchen steak knives in the mouths. (Used for cutting up cheese and salami mostly. Heh...)
